Summary

This session will introduce the topic for next year's World Water Day and UN World Water Development Report: 'Leveraging Water for Peace' and offer participants an opportunity to share stories and best practices on this important topic.

Session Description

Issues pertaining to water conflicts have increasingly been on the international agenda in the past years, exacerbated by global challenges such as climate change, drought, disasters and inequalities.

The recent UN 2023 Water Conference was a watershed moment that mobilized Member States, the UN system and stakeholders alike to take action and bring successful solutions to a global scale. One of those solutions is leveraging water for peace. This session will explore the topic in depth and gather stories from successful and more challenging experiences from participants.

The session will explore the topic in-depth and offer participants an opportunity to share their experiences and get involved in the World Water Day campaign. It will also give insight into the forthcoming UN World Water Development Report on the topic.

The desired audience is policy- and decision makers, advisors, youth and other stakeholders interested in the topic for their own awareness raising, research or policy recommendations.
