Background

Rapprochement in the Tigris and Euphrates Basin

Building Peace Water for Peace Diplomacy in Western Asia and North Africa (WANA)
We believe in a basin-wide, holistic approach for the sharing of transboundary water resources in the Tigris and Euphrates basin, prioritizing justice and equity for all riparian states. This approach transcends bilateral dynamics and creates new opportunities for cooperation and for addressing of long-standing “silent" conflicts.

The primary objective of this project is to establish a foundational knowledge base necessary for diplomatic endeavours aimed at fostering climate-resilient transboundary water agreements among Iraq and its riparian neighbours. Since July 2022, we have been collaborating with national stakeholders in partnership with UNDP under its Catalytic Climate Action in Iraq Project. This collaborative effort facilitates dialogue and engagement with stakeholders across riparian countries within the Tigris and Euphrates basin.
